Weekend Racing Review November 1st-4th 2019
Continued: Part Two

This could just be a subliminal tip for Present Man at Wincanton this weekend. It has taken me an age, a week, scratching my head trying to decide or suss out how best to ‘present’ – I don’t really want a 12-page piece and have decided to just insert links to winning names of relevant races.

Sunday –

Carlisle interesting, Lostintranslation gets all the attention while the first two here, Two For Gold & I’m To Blame (Figure of the Meet) clock a decent time & the 3rd, Chapel Site – could be worth a go over further than the 20f’s of this, the 6th running of the Gordon Richards Chase, a race won by Mister Whitaker in 2017 before he went on to Festival glory later that season.

Over at Cork, Brahma Bull stole the show on the figures registering his 7th win from 11 starts and somehow managing to be stable 3rd string?

Saturday –

Ayr

Figure of the meet I gave him and could well be all weekend too but I’m having flashbacks of what I think was near enough Dr Richard Newland’s first winner in Overstrand back in 2006

After Leoncavallo ran 2nd to Elvis Mail in the Scottish Champion Hurdle Trial at Ayr last Saturday. Could be interesting if he puts a claimer on in his next few rides as he did with Overstrand back in the day…. Only been upped a pound for trying to give the winner 10 here..

Anarchy @ Ascot but a week on and Diego’s lost his charm and anyway, time of the meet went to and I thought he was having it, just seemed a Hobbs ‘plot job,’ Gumball. A personal best was run by each of the first three, with another ‘HOT’ 4yo, Red Force One in 2nd and Nordic Command in 3rd, I can see some winners coming from this race. Got to mention poor Lisp ’Figure of the Meet’ giving weight all round under ‘11 12, while probably hard to place in a handicap I wonder if he could make Graded class?

At Wetherby,  while Lady Buttons [Pictured:

Another lovely Michael Harris photo:

duly did the business and clocked the fastest time and earned a 10 year best for race rpr, there were a couple of French imports making their UK debuts worth making a note of for when they lower their sights perhaps in the eventual 3rd, Vision Du Puy and Zambella, who helped set the honest pace. However, I was quite taken with the winner of the following C3 hurdle after realising that the winner, Proschema, had posted a time very comparable to 2017 winner Kalashnikov, who has won 5 of his 11 starts since including a Gr1 Novice chase at Aintree earlier this year.

Down Royal Saturday Nov 2nd –

A Wave To The Sea

0.20coc / XoM I know it was the first race on the card and the ground can gradually slow down when it’s soft but this still augurs well imho

Friday Nov 1st

Down RoyalDaylight Katie and 2nd, Jeremys Flame (I do like offspring Jeremy(USA) in this sphere) stole the show on the figures:

And Samcro, the headlines – I was quite taken with the third Lotto Numbers – he’s got a half brother to a Gold Cup horse, Myth Buster, 8l’s behind and a potential 170 rated 20l’s in front. This was only his career 4th start and could come out of this well handicapped imho:

Over at Uttoxeter Summerville Boy Wind Opp’d first time, like Sancro above, let us know that he’s back while the 2nd First Flow worthy of note too. Winner gained 2nd highest rpr of the race’s running 5lb below Phillip Hobbs’ Garde La Victoire (beat Bristol De Mai no less) who fell when favourite for Festival JLT Novice.

At Wetherby the time race was won by Fransham but Figure of the Meet went to the Dan Skelton trained 4yo Flegmatik

Last Group One of the flat season switched to Newcastle’s AW track & what a show Kameko produced and easily looks a place prospect for the 2,00 Guineas at least:

What grand servant to the game and connections, dear old ‘lol’ Ropey Guest has already been – surpassed all previous at Newmarket beaten only half a length in another Group 3 and the winner, Kenzia Warrior produced a way fast time – if it should come up heavy next spring he may well be of interest in a trial.

Finally back to Saturday @ Newmarket:

And when was the last time a juvenile 2yo won a Listed race first time out? William Haggas’ Born With Pride has to be one for the Notebook and trackers. One name springs to mind and he went and won the Derby next time out: Lammtarra tarra!
